It was summer of 2011 when two men found a sauna stovefrom outside. Then they got this fantastic idea of building a public sauna. That's how this nowadays extremely popular sauna was born.

 

But the route to these days haven't been easy. Sauna has faced vandalism and the last time someone stole the sauna stove, even news papers wrote about it. Sauna stove company had red this and decided to donated a new one for support. How sweet!

 

 As the route has been rocky, as well Helsinki City has been against Sompasauna - until people made it clear that Sompasauna was important part of urban culture in Helsinki. Year by year it has got popular and year 2015 was a boom! It's pretty impressive as the sauna has been mostly built from things found from skip.

 

Sompasauna is representing the true soul of Helsinki. It's where people are open and honest. Year 2016 might be it's last as Sompasauna is located in Kalasatama where new block of flats are built. But there's a rumor that it will just move to a new spot. Helsinki grows and urban culture on the side.
