Visiting Helsinki for five hours or more? Get out from the airport area! Hop on to bus number 615 and take yourself to central Helsinki. How much things you want to do? Fancy diving in Kallio daily life, where people are at bars drinking beer Mondays at 9 am? Instead of this you can check out some of nice second hand shops in Kallio, like Frida Marina. Or maybe walking in Punavuori, dropping in some of it's nice coffee shops and watch how Helsinkians live their daily life. How about spotting some beautiful jugend architecture in Katajanokka. Grab a coffee and enjoy the sea at the same time.

 

Did you know reindeers are not treated that ethically in Finland? It might sound nice to grab piece of reindeer with you, but it's also part of an animal. Carrying a reindeer bone to your homeland sounds good to you? How about getting something completely different - local as well - somethig that is made by local. Shop local artwork and stuff for daily use. Or how about natural cosmetics?

Or one new place worth checking out is actually not in Helsinki, it's in Vantaa, Myyrmäki suburb. It's a new contemporary art museum, Artsi, which is specialized in street art, as well as graffiti's! In the 90's Myyrmäki was rougher area where always happened something. Still it gets dodgy every now and then, but all this dodgyness has rolled Artsi to it's shape - to open up for art that is seen in our daily life, and which we don't always see as an art. Artsi has taught us to give the value to art.

If you have more time, continue to central Helsinki. Depending on seasons there are plenty of things to do. During summer there are sure lots more things to do. One fun thing would be going SUP'ing in Töölö Bay area. Or try Finnish karaoke. But it recquires a bit of alcohol because no man can take it as sober. Why not discover the industrial Helsinki as well as Sompasauna? Or just visit the best bars in town? But don't get too wasted that you wont miss your flight...
