Being a parent Helsinki
How it is to become pregnant, giving a birth and growing up a child in Helsinki. Finnish health system takes care of fresh mothers. Public health system is taking care that everybody gets treated equally. Before baby is born family can choose the baby box (maternity package) - Äitiyspakkaus - or 140€ tax free money. Finnish Äitiyspakkaus has been in news world wide for the past year but for us Finns it's just something we've been always used to have. But it sure is a very hearty and supportive present from our country.

All the things in the baby box are also gender free, so there are no pinks and blues. Latest box had yellow, brown, red, mint etc. The box includes about 50 different pieces of clothes, cream, box bed, winter clothing as it really gets cold, books, toys.. Basically everything you will need that you didn't know you would! So it makes life easier while life change is about to happen and after the baby has been born for sure.

Traveling with baby is free in public transportations. Also with bigger cild on baby buggy. But not for both of the parents - other one has to pay if there's two of you. Or three, but two adults. Children under 7 years travel for free.

Kindergarten is provided by government. It costs max. 290€/month but the price really depends on the income of parents. Government has Finnish speaking and Swedish speaking kindergartens. There are also private kindergartens which have wider language selection. Kindergarten system is also excellent in Finland as it helps each children to be treated equal as well as parents get help and support.
As you might know schools are free in Finland. Also food is served for free of charge end of high school/vocational school.

Overall Finland is a great country to grow a child!
