Finnish version
We have hot dog which is from Germany. And pasta from Italy. We have sushi from Japan. We also have our Finnish food culture. How about twisting these. Karelian sushi rolls, hot dog with reindeer sausage, pasta with nettle pesto?
For culinary cross-kitchen Helsinki is as well a great spot. People are getting more and more creative about mixing Finnish food culture. We have great ingridients in Finland, but the problem has been so far that we've so used to cook only food we're used to.
Reindeer hot dog is a great one to taste in (though I'm not sure where you can get this in Helsinki). Also white pike-perch ceviche which you can find for exaple from Peruan restaurant La Morena. Finnish versioin of pasta is to use our rye pasta. Same with pizza, in some restaurants you can choose the base made from rye instead of wheat. And kebab - have you considered trying bear kebab? Yes, it's made from bear meat. This you can get sometimes from Döner Harju.
Pimp up your wine. From mid-November to beginning of January there's glögi (mulled wine) available. You can order it in a bar/restaurant or do it yourself. When you mix it with redwine or portwine, it just becomes this delicious drink which brings colour to your cheeks.
You can start this cross-kitchen experience by buying some real rye bread (= jälkiuunileipä is the best!), put it in toaster for a couple of minutes, then add some avocado and a bit of black pepper, lemon and salt on top of it. It will be the best thing you have eaten for a while!
