Midsummer

Midsummer - Juhannus - is one of the most important holidays in Finland. It's called midsummer, but actually that time of the year it's usually still cold. In year 2015 it was +6°C - the same as it was the same year on December. Some people get deppressed yearly because it's always cold, some people take it as humor. But one thing is sure: it's always cold. Ok, almosta always...

Midsummer is also known for being the day when most of the drowning in Finland happen. This is basically because people go on boats when they are drunk. The sad joke goes: most of them drown their pants open. This means they have been peeing from the boat when they have collapsed.

Before midsummers were spent in family owned summer cottages. Nowadays people have started to enjoy city midsummer. Good idea is just to walk around (remember to wear your wool jumper). There are also different happenings organized, which change yearly so I will update this page later.
