Lapin Kulta, Karhu, Karjala... Finns been drinking these beers for ages. We all know how they taste: like bulk lager. Nothing special. You don't enjoy drinking one, you get smashed. So you're not searching for culinary experience.

Then people relaized it's not actually that complicated to make your own beer. And suddenly hobby became a job. There was an open space for local special beers. These beers are also playing a strong role on teaching Finns how-to-drink. Yes, we know how to drink. And we do it like end of the world is coming. Tomorrow. What we have to learn is how to enjoy that one special beer we're drinking and getting satisfaction from that. Now we drink a six-pack (which has actually turned in to twelve-pack within five years) without satisfaction. Drunk we get - that's for sure!

This subject is very sensitive for Finns, so rather not talk about how much they drink alcohol. But you can talk about local breweries!

There are all the time appearing new ones but here are some worth of trying:

Vallilan panimo

MAKU brewing

They have plenty of IPA's and Pale Ale. It has become so popular that you can find this from most of the bars in Helsinki.

Bryggeri

A nice little Helsinki based brewery and bar. A great place to have a beer tasting with your friends!

Stadin Panimo

Calls itself roughly "Helsinki downtown brewery".

Suomenlinnan panimo

This one is actually 250 years old, but represents this new trend.

These are one's that come from Helsinki or near by. Along these there are plenty of other breweries all around Finland!
