The home of Esin. Alppila means something like Alp-place. Well Finland doesn't have alps, the highest point of Finland can be found north of Finland,from Halti, and it's approx 1 324 m above sea level. There's no actually explanation why Alppila is called like that. One reason might be because it's placed in pretty high place, if you leave alppila, you'll have downhill - but returning you will always have to go uphill. Each way. 

 

Alppila itself is not that pretty place, it will look like it's just functional block of flats. But there's also a small wooden house area where you'll find Worker housing museum. Kallio as well as Alppila and Vallila used to be working class areas and even pretty communist areas. Therefore you'll find also Lenin park from Alppila. 

 

Basically Alppila is the place where mostly 25-35-years-old Helsinkians live. Rents are reasonable and apartments big. I wrote about my apartment here.
