Bar hopping is one thing to try out in Helsinki!

 

We Helsinkians like to drink, it's not a joke. It's extremely true. It's part of our social life. So, if we like to drink, there must be plenty of bars as well. Best place for bar hopping is downtown Kallio. There you'll find cheap beer and relaxed atmosphere. Best bars to check out in Kallio are Om'pu, Iltakoulu, Musta Kissa and Pub Sirdie. Also B side bar in Teurastamo is one place to go and discover. Actually B side bar is so nice that you might enjoy your whole evening there - DJ playing tech house and minimal techno, cold international beers for good price, loft atmosphere, nice staff - what else you need?

 

Unfortunately in Kallio and near areas bars close at 2 am - too early. What then? Kolme Kaisaa serves after this until 3 am and it's funny mixture of all kinds of people - punks, hipsters, fruit cakes, weirdo's. Also you can walk to Musta Härkä which is in Vallila. It's open until 4 am. It's like Kolme Kaisaa - a mixture of all kinds of people. After these bars close as well, people go to after party. And in the morning they head to Karaoke bar Populus. And then the round contnues. 

 

But as I wrote there are plenty of bars in Helsinki. Each areas have their own bar culture - from central Helsinki you'll find a bit more sophisticated bars, from suburbs you'll dive into something totally different. Something more like "Kaurismäkeläinen". In some places even a bit racist atmosphere, so be selective. To play it safe - go to Kallio!
