This new area is building fast and is considered as new part of downtown Helsinki. Cruise ships to Estonia and Russia depart from Jätkäsaari so it keeps the area pretty busy. Also Verkkokauppa.com - an electronics shop - is located in the area,
Everything is shiny and new in the area and some part of it is still under construction. L3 warehouse brings good balance for the area. From L3 you'll find art gallery Huuto and antique shop Golden Classics Cafe & Bar.
Also new Clarion hotel is opening in Jätkäsaari and it has outdoor pool as well!
Otherwise Jätkäsaari and Telakkaranta are nice areas to have walk during sunny summer day.
By the way: Jätkäsaari means in English Dude island.
Jätkäsaari
Problem?
There's a huge problem with the building boom in Helsinki: lot's of construction waste ends up in the Baltic Sea. There have been found lots of material stranded in islands of Helsinki, meaning there's still lots in the sea as well. All the waste has been tracked down to Jätkäsaari and new west metro track buildings.
